The Canady Foundation was established in the spring of 2019 by the Canady family. The goal in mind was to change the lives of some people who live in Davidson County and surrounding areas. We have been focused on several ideas and the one issue that continuously came up was feeding the hungry. In 2015, 22.8% of children living in Davidson County, NC were living in Food Insecure homes. We believe this is unacceptable and with enough help we may be able to put a dent in that statistic. Another issue that has been sweeping through the triad in recent years is the overwhelming opioid epidemic. We believe that if you can help one person, you have saved a family, as drug abuse as well as alcohol abuse affects much more than just the user, the reach is broad and the repercussions can be felt by many for years to come.
After many discussions, it has been determined that the 2019 Charities that The Canady Foundation will be supporting are as follows:
Pastor’s Pantry
Pastor’s Pantry is a nonprofit food pantry, with no religious affiliation, that targets senior hunger. Our main focus is seniors (age 60-plus) in financial stress in Davidson County, North Carolina. We provide groceries for seniors in need, once per month. We also provide emergency food to individuals of all ages in crisis mode. Most seniors receive 7-8 plastic grocery bags of food each month, which generally lasts about 10 days. Many of these seniors live with younger relatives in their households, so the number of people we serve is greater than the number of seniors who apply for help. We distribute an average of 5,000 bags of groceries each month, in addition to emergency food. Pastor’s Pantry currently helps more than 700 individuals on average per month in nearly 500 senior households throughout Davidson County. The food is offered at no cost to the recipient.
Davidson County food pantries
Both food and personal hygiene needs can be met by Davidson County food banks and pantries. The locations focus on preventing hunger in the community. Staff will not only try to pass out a bag of groceries to the low income, but other support may be clothing, soap, Christmas meals, and other basic needs. Some even offer financial support or applications to SNAP food stamps or USDA meals for children.
